Potential benefits of male circumcision

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, the potential benefits from male circumcision include the prevention of urinary tract infections, acquisition of HIV, transmission of some sexually transmitted infections and penile cancer. There is discussion if the risk of cervical cancer in his female partner is reduced.1,8,9 Infancy is the optimal age to circumcise. Circumcision later in life may evoke a fear of pain, penile damage or reduced sexual pleasure. Time off work or school will be needed, cost is much greater, as are risks of complications, healing is slower and stitches or tissue glue must be used.10
