(Establish objectives, set learning parameters)

  • Students should have a clear understanding of what trench warfare is, why it was created, and what problems it caused.

  • Target Vocabulary: Chemical warfare, epidemic, machine guns, draft, propaganda

  • Tell the students why the trenches were necessary and then introduce the problems that the trenches themselves caused.

  • Textbook readings along with lecture and handouts will help the students learn the information

  • We will create a “trench” within the classroom and explain how trench warfare exatly worked. The studetns will then create a comic strip showing what a typical battle was like with trench warfare.

Cause and effect, aftermath of the war, technology used in the war
