Thomas Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson was the third president of the United States of America. He served two presidential terms. He later founded the University of Virginia. He died on July 4, 1826, exactly fifty years after the Declaration of Independence was signed.

He was born in Virginia. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding, and canoeing. He went to the college of William and Mary. He later obtained his law degree and became a lawyer.

He was known for ability to write. While a member of the second Continental Congress wrote the Declaration of Independence with the help of Ben Franklin and others. He later wrote the famous statute on religious freedom.

Thomas Jefferson was known as an excellent president. His views on individual freedom, religion and education still play an important part in the views of many today. Jefferson was also a surveyor, author, architect, and farmer.
