This is an important section because during both the 19th and 20th century Britain had a vast overseas Empire to protect. There was a real fear amongst politicians and industry leaders that problems at home may have had repercussions internationally.



Revolutions in 1848 – Europe was hit by a series of violent revolutions in France, Austria and some German states with threatened the overthrow the established order of government. This certainly prompted discussion in the Commons and Lords but the fact reform was not passed until 1867 – 20 years later - can we really consider this a highlt influential factor? You should still mention this…there is an opportunity counter this argument – remember, this will gain you analysis marks.
