It’s the film industry awards season and many films in our programme and their actors and directors have already won awards or feature in the nominations for BAFTAs and maybe Oscars.

4 February The Grand Budapest Hotel
The story of a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars and his friendship with a young employee who becomes his most trusted protégé… An all-star cast including Ralph Fiennes, Adrien Brody, Jeff Goldblum, Jude Law, Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Tilda Swinton and Owen Wilson.
4 March Philomena
Philomena (Judi Dench) has spent 50 years searching for the child she was forced to give up for adoption. Steve Coogan plays the jaded hack, intrigued by her story, who helps her to unravel the extraordinary story of her lost son in America and in the process they find laughter in the darkest places and forge an unexpected bond
1 April Mr Turner
Stunning and beautiful, this film is the story of the loves and losses of arguably Britain’s greatest artist. Timothy Spall gives a great performance – he learnt to paint in order to play the part. Many scenes were shot at Petworth House where Turner had a studio and which houses many of his works.
6 May Gone Girl
On his fifth wedding anniversary, Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) reports that his wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike), has gone missing. Under pressure from the police and the media, Nick's portrait of a blissful union begins to crumble. Soon his lies, deceits and strange behaviour have everyone asking the same dark question: Did Nick Dunne kill his wife? Based on the best-selling book by Gillian Flynn
3 June The Theory of Everything
Eddie Redmayne has already won a Golden Globe for his portrayal of the early life of the astrophysicist Stephen Hawking, one of the world’s greatest minds.
1 July The Imitation Game
The incredible true story of unsung war hero Alan Turing, the British mathematician responsible for cracking the German Enigma code during the Second World War. Benedict Cumberbatch (The Fifth Estate, Star Trek Into Darkness, and TV’s Sherlock) and Keira Knightley (BAFTA nominee for Atonement, Oscar nominee for Pride and Prejudice) star as Turing and his ally and fellow code-breaker Joan Clarke, alongside a top-notch cast.

We have included some films that are currently only just out on general release at the major cinemas on the basis of the scheduled release dates in DVD format; we have done this in the hope that we are able to show these titles as soon as possible but we may have to change the programme if there is any alteration to those release dates. Watch this space!
