Grade Level: 11 American History is designed to teach students how to acquire information and make objective decisions based on as much information as possible. Each unit incorporates the gathering of information and decision-making. Emphasis is placed on understanding the forces that have shaped the American character and on examining the reform movements which have affected the American point of view. Peaceful resolution of conflict and the role of compromise is stressed. Students are asked to address major social issues in America, past and present, and to present a thesis on possible solutions to problems these issues may represent. Students study time periods of American History chronologically from colonies to present day.
