Ages 45
Topic: Age Discrimination
Step 1:
Ageism, or age discrimination is stereotyping and discriminating against individuals or groups because of their age. It is a set of beliefs, attitudes, norms, and values used to justify age based prejudice, discrimination, and subordination.
Do you find yourself or others your age making fun of a particular age group? Must provide examples, so if you do not do this, then think about the media.
Step 2:
Using the internet and the following websites, research age discrimination laws in the United States, including when they were passed and whom they protect. Type your findings below.

Step 3:
Now that you have researched age discrimination and laws to prevent it, you are going to create a public service announcement to increase your classmates’ awareness of age discrimination issues.
Public service announcements (PSA) are messages in the public interest disseminated by the media without charge, with the objective of raising awareness, changing public attitudes and behavior towards a social issue.
Visit the websites below to see examples of PSAs. There are many different PSAs on the Ad Council website. You can view others than those provided.

Step 4:
Create a public service announcement that promotes age discrimination for safety reasons or is against the discrimination. Your public service announcement can be a podcast or a video. It is your choice. It must be at least fifteen seconds in length and address age discrimination.
Closure:
Share your public service announcement with fellow classmates.
Duration: 3 Periods
