Re-teach handout and continuation of concepts and review using PowerPoint presentation with teacher’s side notes.



Homework: Beginning Persuasive Essay Introduction from Prompt (2nd period only) Read the 3 short story selections (6th only)


Thursday - (9-22-11)
Daily Objective:
Skills: What the students will be able to do…write an effective statement of case and proposition statement for effective persuasive essay introduction from an ACT styled prompt.

Activities and Strategies (Include do now, instructional activities, student activities [guided/independent], and closure): Do Now: sentence combining, share out of Do Now , PPT on Writing an effective persuasive essay organizer, elements of persuasive essay, word choice and emotional and logical appeals. Individual seat work, correct statement of case and proposition statement add refutation and confirmation to essay structure. Exit ticket: Peer to Peer review of refutation and confirmation statement. (2nd only) MYP writing unit: Who I am ( close reading analysis of 3 short stories of cultural American experience ( Alexie, Chan, McBride), discussion on role of author in society, intention of author to bring about social change (MYP area of interaction) Exit Ticket: Who I am assignment (*essay on self as dual citizen)

Homework: First draft of Persuasive essay due Tuesday (Sept 20th)

Daily Objective:

Skills: What the students will be able to do…write an effective use of sentence structure and flow to create a persuasive essay from an ACT styled prompt. Skills: What the students will do…identify author’s intention through supporting details word choice and context clue strategy (6th only)



Activities and Strategies (Include do now, instructional activities, student activities [guided/independent], and closure): Do Now: Sentence Combining, PPT of effective 5 paragraph persuasive essay (mark up-modeled), Peer to Peer mark up or first draft of essay (mark up), Writing effective conclusion: Revisiting the prompt. MYP writing unit: Who I am (close read analysis of 3 short stories of cultural American experience ( Alexie, Chan, McBride), charting motif: duality, intention of author to bring about social change and cultural understanding (MYP area of interaction)

Homework: Correct 1st draft and type essay (due 9/20- 2nd period only) Beginning 800 word essay on Who I am (motif of duality in literature-MYP area of interaction) (6th period only)
