  • Explain how colonists built the first permanent English colony in North America at Jamestown but faced many problems.

  • Describe how the Pilgrims came to North America seeking religious freedom.

  • Explain how the custom of giving thanks with a feast or ceremony has been shared by many different groups of people throughout history.

  • Explain how in the 1600s people from the Netherlands and Sweden began colonies in North America.

  • Explain how changes made by the Virginia Company helped the colony of Virginia to grow.

  • Explain why the Pilgrims came to North America.

  • Describe the reasons for building the New Netherlands and New Sweden colonies.
