SEA LIFE PARK BY DOLPHIN DISCOVERY AND NCL AMERICA ANNOUNCE WINNERS OF THE NAME THE BABY TURTLE CONTEST
HONOLULU – Sea Life Park by Dolphin Discovery and NCL America earlier this week announced the winners of the name the baby honu (turtle) contest. The four winning names were selected from more than 1,000 entries by a panel of judges who based their decision on the explanations given for the name. The winners are:
Aubrey Schaab (age 14) for the name Ha‘aheo – meaning pride.
Cassidy Cansky (age 7) for the name Nani Pupu – meaning beautiful shell.
Savannah Anakalea (age 22) for the name Kaimakana – meaning gifted ocean.
Katy Martin (age 10) for the name ‘Au Ku‘oko‘a – meaning to swim free.
The winners of the contest will receive a 7-day cruise aboard NCL America’s Pride of Hawaii on the October 2-9 cruise around the Hawaiian Islands. During the sail on October 7, the Kona to Kauai leg of the voyage, the turtles will be released in pelagic waters. The four Hawaiian green sea turtles were captive-bred and raised in part by Sea Life Park by Dolphin Discovery as part of a research project by the Pacific Island Fisheries Science Center, NOAA, National Marine Fisheries Service in Honolulu. Winners will also receive an annual pass for four to Sea Life Park by Dolphin Discovery.
Michael W. Perry and Sweetie Pacarro of KSSK (92.3 FM) will be special guests on the “Turtle Cruise,” hosting special events for the winners during the cruise such as a karaoke contest, a Mike and Sweetie dinner and a captain’s reception. For those who did not win and still want to join the “Turtle Cruise” are welcome to come along and can purchase a cabin by calling Non-Stop Travel, 593-0700, and mentioning “Turtle Cruise.” A very limited number of cabins are still available.
The Park was acquired last year by Dolphin Discovery and is the first investment in the U.S. Mr. Eduardo Albor, president and CEO of Dolphin Discovery has committed a significant amount of resources to improving and
upgrading the facilities at Sea Life Park over the past year to make the Park, once again, one of the most important attractions on Oahu and a worldwide research center for marine life.
