Activities
Starter:

Class brainstorm on the problems faced by the Bosheviks immediately on gaining power.

Main:

  1. There’s a lot to do in this lesson – Sovnarkom, Civil War, use of terror Cheka and Red Army, Brest Litovsk

  2. The handout – How did Lenin stay in power after October 1917? Covers this well as does Oxley. Probably the most time efficient way to approach this is a teacher led exposition through the main events with students supplementing these skeleton ideas by making their own notes for homework.

Areas of discussion / Parallels

  • Refer to War Communism and NEP-policies.

The establishment of Boshevik power
Oxley : 113-126.
