2.3.1 National poverty

The evaluation of Mozambique’s second national Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PARPA II) in 2009 provided an overview of trends in childhood poverty, which decreased from 59 per cent in 2003 to 48 per cent in 2008 (using a deprivation approach based on the Bristol Indicators). Lack of available data at the time of the evaluation prevented an overview of poverty reduction trends from 2003 (54 per cent) to present (based on an income based approach). This assessment is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2010, when the data become available.
