I performed the literacy assessment on five-year-old kindergartener Riley. Riley was very attentive and could easily identify and differentiate the letters of the alphabet uppercase and lowercase. Riley did struggle a little bit with sounding out the letters G, F, J,R, C, Y, K, I, H. Specifically when sounding out the letter K she often confused it with the letter C. During the Book and Print Assessment, Riley did majorly well besides when we were going through our book, she started from right to left after we flipped the page, she also had a hard time due to mixing words and sounds with other words and sounds that she was already familiar with. This assessment encouraged me to continue to take time with students as in the end they will struggle less and strive more.
