I have the honour to report that the force under my command embarked at Tientsin on the 19th Sept in the hired transports “Kwang Ping”, “Shao Shing” and “Shun Tien” and, escorted from Taku Bar by H. M. S. “Triumph” and the torpedo destroyer “Usk”, arrived at Wei-hai-wei at 2.15 p.m. on 20th Sept.

The number of mules necessary to complete our requirements in transport, which had been purchased by Captain Knaggs, Indian Army, were there embarked, that officer offering valuable assistance both there and on disembarkation at Lao Shau Bay.


(They join up with Japanese troops and attack the Germans.)

In the Piave battle, October 27th-29th, 1918, he showed most conspicuous gallantry throughout the advance. When his company was held up he went back under heavy machine-gun fire and brought up a Lewis gun. Finding difficulty in bringing fire to bear on the enemy he stood and held the gun on his shoulder while it was fired. Later he was wounded, but carried on and continued to do most valuable and gallant work.
