Students are expected to formulate individual paper topics that utilize textual analysis, and socio-cultural contextualization of THREE films to discuss the relationship between teen culture and U.S. culture. Only two of the films you analyze may be from our class screening list.
Students can approach this assignment in one of the following ways:
Choose three films from the same time period that address a particular crisis in U.S. culture and discuss the different ways that teens and teen culture are represented.
Choose three films from three different decades that illustrate the changing representations of particular identity categories (race, ethnicity, gender, class, sexuality, ability, etc.).
The 8-10 pagefinal paper must be a typed, double-spaced, analytical term paper with a minimum of SIX references (a minimum of THREE must be critical/academic references). You are encouraged to draw on course readings for your sources. You may use either MLA or Chicago as your citation method. The key is to be thorough and consistent.
