Ascension. Formerly: was arc of Equinoctial intercepted between east point of horizon and First Point of Aries when a heavenly body was rising. Was qualified as 'right ascension' when referred to an observer at Equator, 'oblique ascension' when referred to an observer away from Equator. The latter term has lapsed.
