Roman Mythology




List five major plot points of the myth.













After reading the myth, what other story/stories might have been influenced by Cupid and Psyche?



What general life lessons (2-3) can be learned as you examine the timeline of this plot? Explain how these are developed.



Cupid and Psyche Tableau (30 points)

A tableau is a group of models or motionless figures representing a scene from a story or from history. You will get together in groups of three or four to plan a five-scene tableau representing the events of a portion of Cupid and Psyche. In addition, you will reveal the theme or lesson of the myth in a sixth slide. The scenes will be captured through live-action photos and placed in a Power Point or other presentation maker to be shown to the class.

Directions:

Day 1—In your groups, you will have the class period to plan and photograph your tableau scenes. There should be five scenes photographed within the section assigned. Each scene must portray a main event from the section. Emotions and actions should be discernible. Each group member must appear in at least one photo.

The sixth photograph will show the theme or lesson derived from your group’s section. This can be depicted in any way your team sees fit. It should not show an event from the myth itself.

Once your six tableau scenes are photographed, you will plan a short description in your own words to accompany each picture in your presentation. The descriptions (1-5) should tell the story in summarized form.
Day 2—We will work in a computer lab to develop the presentations.

Components:



  • Title Slide with group members’ names

  • Six slides depicting five events(photos and descriptions) and one lesson/theme (photo and explanation)

The projects will be shown on Friday at the beginning of the class.


Grading Criteria

  • Presentation is completed professionally and neatly (5)

  • At least five plot tableaus depict main events (5)

  • Five or more plot tableaus show knowledge of emotions and actions within the myth (5)

  • Five plot descriptions are accurate and written clearly (5)

  • Theme/ Lesson description is accurate and written clearly in sixth slide (5)

  • Group works efficiently and responsibly; communicate absences and make sure all work is completed on time (5)

*If you are going will be absent any of these days, you will be completing an alternative assignment. Two options: You can complete the tableau individually OR you can depict the same six representations using your own artwork and paper.
