Who is fighting over control of the American colonies? Well, of course the American colonists and the British, but the American colonists were divided! Which half fought for which cause? Define Loyalist and Patriot below, and then list the positive (why was it good to belong to that side) and the negative (why was it not good to belong to that side) qualities of these groups in the space provided. Do not forget about the British soldiers, which are also listed below.

Loyalist of Patriot?
To complete this project you must create an advertisement for a colonial newspaper that is designed to convince American colonists to fight in the war and to join up as either a Loyalist or a Patriot. This is similar to the posters you created for the Colonial Experiment project. You need to provide an image that displays the side you are supporting and must include good reasoning as to why someone should join your group.
Here’s how to get started:
Think about which side you would choose. Which side sounds more appealing, and why? Develop at least three reasons why you think your side is better than the other, using your notes on the front of this page and the information from past units. Jot this down in the Brainstorming section, located at the bottom of the paper.
You also need to make it clear to your audience what side you are advertising for. Think about what images would be good to advertise your position and attract people to the cause. Your images must match the side that you are choosing. In the box located at the bottom of the page, you need to create a sample of the poster and image that you will include on the full sized poster.
How you will be graded: (25 points total)
15 points At least three reasons why a colonist should join either the Patriot or the Loyalist cause. These
reasons should be accurately used to convince a colonist to join one of the two sides.
