The reading quiz, handout completion and reflection essay are all assessment strategies. They range in progression from basic recall, description, compare and contrast and critique of a literary work to encourage student critical thinking. The reading discussion, podcast, biography reading, word cloud creation and group discussion are all instructional strategies using a variety of sources and technologies to further student understanding of the topic. The combination of individual work and group work/discussion adds variety and movement to the class session. This lesson is designed primarily for a block-scheduled period, but can be separated into a two-day lesson if necessary.
