Carolina Pinheiro is the Governance Program Coordinator for the Huairou Commission, Brooklyn, NY. She received her M.A. in International Affairs from the New School University and her degree in Law from the University of Brasilia in Brazil. With more than 10 years of experience working in the not-for-profit sector, Ms. Pinheiro has served as an attorney, researcher and program manager to promote human rights and support grassroots groups to foster community development, and to influence national and international development policies.
For the past two years, she has coordinated the Transparency and Accountability Initiative: Empowering Grassroots Women to Reduce Corruption and Improve Service Delivery. The Initiative formed out of a growing partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and has been implemented in five countries across Latin America, Africa and Asia. Ms. Pinheiro has contributed to the design and implementation of groundbreaking studies on grassroots women’s perspectives on corruption and anti-corruption. Her academic work focuses on “the art of listening” as critical to democratization, good governance and international relations.
