Jane Austen on Screen

In the following chapter, all the film and television adaptations of Jane Austen’s novels are listed. The compilation is based on Sue Parrill’s Jane Austen on Film and Television: A Critical Study of the Adaptations. It traces growing popularity of Austen’s work as a source for film and television adaptations since the 1940s. Fifteen adaptations of her work have been made only in the last twenty years. As Solender writes in her essay, during the 1990s, Jane Austen was “reputedly the most powerful woman in Hollywood.”
