LaVerne E. Martin, 86, Peru, passed away at 1:12 p.m. Monday, March 14, 2005 at Dukes Memorial Hospital.

She was born Nov. 10, 1918 in Valparaiso to Philip and Lida Benham Hayes.

She married Leslie E. Martin Dec. 12, 1936, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 24, 1981.

Martin worked in the laundry department of Dukes Memorial Hospital and also was a homemaker. She was a member of First Christian Church, Peru.

Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Anderson and Patricia "Pat"

Huddleston, both of Peru; two sons, Paul Martin and wife Elizabeth, Kokomo, and Douglas Martin, Niles, Ill.; three brothers, Grant and Robert Hayes, both of LaCrosse, and DeWight Hayes, Columbus; four sisters, Marie Dewey and Inez Jenks, both of Michigan City, Eunice Trumbo, Goldendale, Wash., and Edith Pratt, Wenatchee, Wash.; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by both parents; one son, Chester Martin; four brothers and one sister.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home with the Rev. George McCarty and the Rev. Jeremy Boszor officiating.

Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Peru. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, Peru.
