TITLE: The Industrial Age

GRADE & SUBJECT: 7TH Grade, United States History: Civil War to the Present

GOALS: The student will understand the significance of the Industrial Age, the difference between the first and second Industrial Revolutions, along with understanding the impact of technology on the American society.

SOL’S:

USII.1 (Skills) – The student will demonstrate skills for historical & geographical analysis & responsible citizenship, including the ability to:

b.) make connections between the past and the present

e.) evaluate and debate issues orally and in writing

i.) identify the costs and benefits of specific choices made, including the consequences, both intended and unintended, of the decisions and how people and nations responded to positive and negative incentives.

USII.2 (Geography)- The student will use maps, globes, photographs, pictures, or tables for:

b.) explaining relationships among natural resources, transportation, and industrial development after 1865

c.) locating the 50 states and the cities most significant to the historical development of the United States.

USII.4 – The student will demonstrate knowledge of how life changed after the Civil War by:

b.) explaining the reasons for the increase in immigration, growth of cities, new inventions, and challenges arising from this expansion.



d.) explaining the impact of new inventions, the rise of big business, the growth of industry, and life on the American farms.

TOO MUCH IN ONE DAY…OBJECTIVE: STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:

  • Identify and discuss TAKE THIS OUT… AND MAKE IT ANOTHER OBJECTIVE the Industrial Age and dates of occurrence

  • Identify the First and Second Industrial Revolution, and discuss the differences between the two revolutions.

  • List the major regions of the United States which was a powerhouse during the Industrial Revolution. DIDN’T SEE THIS IN YOUR NOTES… I KNOW YOU ARE USING A MAP BUT NEED TO WRITE DOWN FOR YOURSELF WHAT YOU ARE SHOWCASING…

  • list major innovation that took place during the Industrial Revolution DIDN’T SEE THIS CLEARLY EITHER.. EDISON AND WHITNEY AND RAILROADS?

  • explain how the United States was transformed from an agricultural nations before the civil war to an industrial nation after the war. I REALLY DIDN’T SEE THIS
