Dear Lansdowne Families,

Every great advance in science has issued from a new audacity of imagination. ~John Dewey, The Quest for Certainty, 1929

I am proud to announce that the Lansdowne Science Fair will be held Tuesday, November 17th from 5:30-7:00.

A science fair is a competition in which students:

  1. Identify a question

  2. Create an experiment design to try and answer that question

  3. Organize results onto a tri-fold display board in order to share information

The purpose of a school science fair is to provide the opportunity for students to extend their interests and apply their knowledge, skills, talents, creativity and interest in the area of science. Experiments help provide students with experience in observing, recording, hypothesizing, inferring and applying critical thinking skills. These skills can not only apply to science but to subject areas in everyday life.

Attached to this letter is a list of category choices and a student proposal form. If your student is interested in conducting an experiment and completing a project, please return the proposal form to Mrs. Rodabaugh by Monday, October 5th. Upon receipt of the proposal, I will send home an information packet about project completion. The Lansdowne Science fair will take place on Tuesday, November 17th. All projects will be due by 8:00am on that date.

The district science fair will take place on February 6th, 2016. This district level competition will be attended by the top winners of our Lansdowne Science Fair. At this time, the district level science fair entry is only valid for 4th and 5th grade students. With that said, I think completing a science fair project is a great opportunity for all grade levels. All students will have a chance to place in our Lansdowne Science Fair- but only 4th and 5th grade students are allowed to advance to the district level.

I look forward to seeing the “audacity of imagination” of all interested students. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
