HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 3

A Resolution honoring the service of Eric Swanson with the Patriot Guard Riders.
WHEREAS, the Patriot Guard Riders is a volunteer organization which serves and honors America’s fallen military heroes, first responders, and honorably discharged veterans by attending the funeral services for fallen American heroes to honor their service, their families, and their communities, and to ensure the dignity and security of those services; and
WHEREAS, the Patriot Guard Riders also serve veterans with special needs, their families, and the community through fundraising and service projects; and
WHEREAS, Davenport resident Eric Swanson has served as a Patriot Guard Rider since 2005 and has been a Ride Captain since 2006, serving as a Ride Captain in Illinois and as a Senior Ride Captain in Iowa; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Swanson served in the United States Marine Corps, including tours of duty in Vietnam from August 1969 to April 1973, and was awarded the Bronze Star and four Purple Hearts; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Swanson leads over 100 Patriot Guard missions a year by notifying those involved with a funeral service, scouting a route, putting together the details of the ceremony, and leading the Patriot Guard to its destination; NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, That the House of Representatives honors Eric Swanson for his service as a Patriot Guard Ride Captain and for his continued service to Iowa’s veterans and their communities; and
