Phoenix Scholarship
Scholarship Guidelines
The Horicon Phoenix Program offers two annual non-renewable scholarships of $1000 to Horicon High School students who are beginning an accredited higher education program. One will be awarded to a student attending a college or university, the second for a student attending a technical school or a vocational school. These scholarships are offered to support and recognize community engagement in volunteer or leadership activities, and to support the Horicon Phoenix Program mission:
The Horicon Phoenix Program supports our local businesses, schools, civic organizations and environment with a special emphasis on respect, sustainability, friendship, and the benefits of enjoying life locally.
Primary Award Criteria

Community involvement in volunteer or other civic engagement activities.


Secondary Award Criteria

  • Academic achievement.

  • Academic goals, specifically those that are aimed at community engagement and/or serving a community.

  • Leadership roles and other involvement.


Eligible Applicants

  • Geographic restrictions: the applicant’s permanent address must be within the 53032 zip code.

  • Academic restrictions: applicants must be graduating seniors from Horicon High School, or home school equivalent.


Award Restrictions

  • This is a non-renewable award and can only be granted to an applicant once.

  • This award supports academic programs that result in a degree: Associates or Bachelors.

  • This award is for students planning on attending a college or university full time, or a technical school or vocational school.

  • The winner will be announced at the end of May.

  • Awards will be dispersed upon receipt of a Letter of Acceptance from the accredited educational program. Deadline for letter is August 31, 2015.

  • Extracurricular activities or employment

  • Honors, scholarships or awards you have received in school and out of school


Attach the following:
Letter of Recommendation

Do not use a relative for recommendation. Instead consider using a teacher, mentor, group leader, coach, or advisor.


Copy of your transcript

This can be obtained from your school records office. An unofficial copy will be accepted but should be prepared by your school’s office. If homeschooled, include any applicable scores or tests to show academic standing.
