  • 5th President of the United States

    • Served from 1817–1825 and served in the Continental Army

    • Joined the Anti-Federalists and elected U.S Senator in 1790

    • Minister to France from 1794-1796

    • Cabinet posts: Secretary of State and Secretary of War

  • Cumberland Road Bill- Vetoed bill for yearly road improvements

  • Economical Issues

  • U.S divided into differing sections

→ Conflicts over: tariff, banks, internal improvements, slavery, the right to vote
