SMARTER BALANCED TESTING
As many of your children have been sharing with you, we have started to proceed with our Smarter Balanced Testing on the computers at school. The testing has been rigorous for the children, and we have all learned a great deal from the experience. If you would like to learn more about the Smarter Balanced testing, please go to www.smarterbalanced.org/practice-test. Find the area for practice tests. It will give you a sample of the types of questions that are being asked during our testing periods. The testing for this year is experimental and will not be used for scoring students individually. I appreciate the patience and support you have shown throughout this interesting time of transition in our education system.
6th GRADE PROMOTION

We will be celebrating our sixth grade promotion at American High School this year on June 11th starting at 4:30 P.M. We are excited about the change of venue for this event, so please put the date in your calendar. PLEASE HELP WITH OUR AURGUMENTATIVE

ESSAYS

Before our Spring Break, your children started an argumentative essay on a topic which was to have interested them. They were required to do some research on the subject which could help to support their ideas. During this process, I want the students to try to find support for their claims by finding the following:

  • A study from an accredited institution that talks about the issue

  • A statistic that supports the claim

  • A quotation from a famous person who also supports their idea

This type of research is difficult to do during class time, so I am asking for parent support for this writing project. This type of writing will be part of the common core transition, so I am excited to be working on this with the students.
