GRADE 8 MORALITY

NOTES TO CHAPTER 9: 4TH AND 5TH COMMANDMENTS


VOCABULARY WORDS:

  1. honor—(n). denotes admiration, respect, or esteem accorded to another as a right or as due.

  2. respect—synonymous to honor and esteem.

  3. obey—(v). to carry out or fulfill a command, order, or instructions of one in authority.

  4. obedience—(n). the act of obeying; includes respectful listening and trusting response to a person who has authority

  5. murder—(n). the unlawful killing of a human being by another especially with premeditated malice

  6. genocide—(n). the systematic and planned extermination of an entire nation, race, political, or ethnic group

  7. infanticide—(n). the act of killing an infant

  8. parricide—(n). the murder of one’s father, mother, or other near relative

  9. fratricide—(n). the killing of one’s brother or sister

  10. direct abortion—(n). direct and intentional killing of an unborn child

  11. suicide—(n). the act of intentionally killing oneself

  12. euthanasia—(n). “mercy killing”; direct and intentional killing of a person who is suffering from a long-term or terminal illness.

  13. capital punishment—(n). executing people as punishment for certain crimes; death penalty
