Ex 1

The poet is addressing to an urn.

Ex 2

  1. They are “unravished bride”, “foster – child” and “sylvan historian”. Pure wife and adopted child. The urn is the historian’s child.

  2. The contradiction is that an historian doesn’t write anything about the silence and quite, because his topics are war and what happen during the story.

  3. They are “flowery” and “wild ecstasy”. They express that story is something that doesn’t depend to human will.

  4. We learn the way of living in Arcady.

  1. The paradox is connected to the idea of imagination, able to reconcile opposite or discordant qualities, so that what is unheard is more concrete than what is heard.

  2. 1. They are about: two young guys that are on the point of kissing and a singer’song.

2. They cannot change because they are chiselled on the urn.

3. The consequence of their being unchanging is that they can never kiss the lover. But there is also a positive side: they will be young forever and they will be remembered forever.

  1. 1. They refer to the scene of the urn and they are repeated eleven times.

2. The Spring will never go away from the trees, the melodist will sing and play forever, the feeling of love remains forever and they will be forever young.

3. In my opinion they have negative connotations because they can’t act in any time and they can’t express their feelings.

  1. The poet’s attitude seems to detect some kind of contradiction, because he writes that is bad that the representation is motionless, but in the fourth stanza he writes an opposite description.

  1. This stanza describes a sacrifice. The poet describes the scene making questions to the reader.

  2. In my opinion there are eerie and enigmatic because the reader doesn’t know anything about the story but it’s described as a mysterious event, underlined by the poet’s questions.

Ex 6

  1. They are: “Attic shape”, “Fair Attitude”, “silent form” and “Cold Pastoral”. The beauty of the urn is empathises by “Fair Attitude”, “Attic shape” and “silent form” recall those of the first stanza and “Cold Pastoral” points the functions of art.

  2. It’s recalled when the poet says that silence “dost tease us out of thought”.

  3. In my opinion, it’s cold because on the urn, the characters can’t express their feelings to their goals.

Ex 7

  1. The final message of the urn is that art makes everything permanent.

  2. Art is the beauty and true because it renders the essential elements of human experience.
