Ms. Elizabeth McBroom

Room 214

Tutorials: 3-3:30 M, T, W, Th
English 4 DP is the second half of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme Language A: Literature requirement for the IB diploma or the Language A certificate.  The senior level class focuses on Part 1 (world literature) and Part 3 (groups of works) of the Diploma Programme course requirements. The novels selected for this course are One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Solzhenitsyn, The Stranger by Camus, The Time of the Doves by Rodoreda, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Twain, 1984 by Orwell, The Road by McCarthy, and The Awakening by Chopin.

For this class, the students complete the world literature assignment required for external assessment by IB and work on literary commentary/analysis and essay writing techniques.  The students also use Socratic discussions to study the novels.  This ensures that the students will be ready to sit for the IB exam in Language A: Literature in the spring and that they are prepared for college work.

This is a busy semester , and time management is key to your success.
