Donner Party webquest
Directions: Answer the following questions below using reputable internet sources, which you should informally cite in your answers. You need to use at least three different sources in your answers.
Questions:

  1. Who was involved in the Donner Party (i.e. how many members, male and female and who were their leaders)? Where were they going? What route did they follow?

  2. What big mistake did they make that got them trapped in the mountains? How long were they trapped in the mountains?

  3. How did they survive when trapped in the mountains? Be specific and provide detailed examples.

  4. How many people made it out alive? Who were they (male/female and any leaders)?

  5. Where did the Donner party end up?

Personal reflection (at least one full paragraph – five to six sentences)

  • Do you agree with the Donner Party’s decision? Is it morally appropriate to do what they did to survive? Should there have been any type of social isolation or punishment? Do you think you would be able to resort to that level of desperation? (Obviously knowing what you would do in desperate times is impossible, so be as introspective and realistic as possible.)
