illegible] charges used against me, are; First that I am responsible for the revocation of the order of Genl. Burnside suppressing the Chicago Times, & that you are indifferent, or more than indifferent about my re-election. Time has verified the wisdom of your action in regard to the Times.

Having been an earnest, & faithful supporter supporter of your administration, from the beginning, I am desirous in case of your re-election (which for the sake of the Country may God grant) of remaining in Congress & to render you my humble, but honest support until your great work is accomplished.

If you would address a note to Mr Larned, stating who how far I was responsible for the Burnside order, & whether I had been a faithful friend, I am sure it would be discreetly used, would probably secure my election & be ever gratefully remembered by
