Do:In a Lucidchart organizer, (double-spaced, two pages), discuss how one of essential questions listed below pertains to the film Minority ReportAND OUR CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY. Your job is to use the graphic organizer in a way to make those connections—how does this film relate to what we see in our modern world? Your Lucidchart should include all parts of the question, and your answers, in a clear and visual way.
Consider the scene where Tom Cruise’s character Chief John Anderton walks through a mall. Sensors pick up Anderton’s presence and display products that he would want to buy. In this scene, what is the critique being made about our modern world today? Does it have to do with privacy? Are we moving towards a society--or does it already exist--where we are bombarded everywhere we go with advertising? Is that a good thing? Why or why not?
“There is always a flaw; they are always human.” This is a common theme in science fiction. It is the idea that the technology is perfect, machine-like, whereas with humans there is always some flaw. Based on that idea, is humanity essentially flawed? Does the film present technology as humanity’s savior? Why or why not?
“Pre-Crime: It Works” is on the billboard. Why could this statement be considered propaganda? What are the costs and benefits of having a system like the Precogs in place? Would you want a system that works like this for us if it were possible? Does the film suggest that to live in Minority Report’s society, it would suggest that we are really stuck in a cultural prison, constantly under surveillance? Why? Why not?
