5. Reassessing existing Disability Living Allowance claims

5.1 Every Disability Living Allowance (DLA) claimant aged 16 to 64 on 8 April 2013 will be eligible to claim Personal Independence Payment and will be assessed for entitlement to Personal Independence Payment where they do so. This is called the reassessment strategy. We set out our high level strategy for reassessment in a briefing document published on 14 March18. In that note we made clear that reassessment activities will not start until October 2013, six months after Personal Independence Payment has been introduced for new claims only in order to ensure that our processes are working effectively.

5.2 This chapter sets out further details on our proposals including how we will inform people of the changes and what they need to do in order to claim Personal Independence Payment. It also sets out how and when we envisage payment of the benefit will commence. The Transitional regulations will be provided for under the powers in Schedule 10 to the Act.
