ANALYSIS OF THE RESPONSE OF THE GOVERNMENT OF BAHAMAS
TO THE QUESTIONNAIRE FOR EVALUATION OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE INTER-AMERICAN CONVENTION ON THE PREVENTION, PUNISHMENT
AND ERADICATION OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN,
“CONVENTION OF BELÉM DO PARÁ”
A. INTRODUCTION The final analysis of the response of the Government of the Bahamas was reassessed for review at the Committee of Experts’ (CEVI’s) Seventh Meeting held in Washington from 27th - 29th September 2011. The analysis commences with a geographic description of the Bahamas, a short history, the demographics and explanation of its social structure. This is important as it sets the background for the social and political context in which the Bahamian society developed. A synopsis of the advances achieved and the obstacles faced by the country precedes the analysis of the responses.
