a) Ephesians 2:19 "Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household."
1 Timothy 3:15"If I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God's household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth."
The church is compared to God's household.
b) 2 Corinthians 6:17-18 "Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you." 18I will be a Father to you and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty."
The Lord is the Father of His family or the Church.
c) Matthew 12:48-50 "He replied, "who is my mother, and who are my brother?" 49Pointing to his disciples, he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers. 50For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother."
Those who are believers or born-again Christians are the members of God's family. Therefore, we are brothers and sisters in Christ.
d) 1 Peter 2:2"Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation."
The church must spread the gospel everywhere, so that there will be many new members in God's family. The Bible compares new believers to newborn babies who require tender, loving, genuine care in order for them to grow. It is the responsibility of the church to see that they receive good nourishment and grow properly.
e) Hebrews 12:5-10 As members of God's family, we should be willing to receive His discipline and punishment because God disciplines those He loves.
f) 1 Thessalonians 2:11-1211"For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children 12encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into His kingdom and glory."
God appoints some to be overseers who will lead, encourage, comfort, teach and urge members of His family to do His will, and to live lives worthy of the Lord.
g) 1 Thessalonians 2:7-8 7"As apostles of Christ we could have been a burden to you, but we were gentle among you, like a mother caring for her little children. 8We love you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well because you had become so dear to us."
God appoints some to be spiritual leaders in different levels and ministries in order to take care of His children.
h) Hebrews 13:17 "Obey you leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you."
The overseers, elders, and spiritual helpers have the responsibility to take care of church members. They will eventually give an account to God. We should obey and submit to them, as unto the Lord. God will bless our obedience and we will grow spiritually with the peace and joy of the Lord.
