In class we have discussed Chs. 1and 2 in City of Big Shoulders about early Chicago, especially the interactions between Native American tribes and white settlers (French, British, and American).
For this assignment you are to create a journal/diary imagining that you were a Native American living in the Chigagou area from 1673 to 1830; OR create 4 drawings on 8.5 X 11 paper illustrating Native Am. Experiences from the same time period.
The requirements for your journal/diary or drawings are as follows:
Minimum of two pages hand-written (journal/diary)—and done in FIRST PERSON; or FOUR pages for the drawings (done separately on 8.5 X 11 white paper—NOT notebook paper).
Done neatly—with no scratchouts and spelling and grammar errors. (This includes any captions that go with the drawings.)
Demonstrate an understanding of how the Natives and whites interacted with each other—both positive and negative—and how your tribe interacted with other tribes.
Mention SPECIFIC details from history—including names of Native American tribes, dates certain events occurred, and some general information about the events as well.
If you choose to create some drawings: DO include some text/captions/words with them to show what Native Am. tribes and/or events the drawings refer to.
Feel free to be creative—and make up certain names of individuals and relationships between them. But make sure that your work is as historically accurate and realistic as possible.
