Books for Consideration to Read in Small Groups:

  1. A Long Way Gone – The story of a child soldier in Africa.

  2. The Fault in Our Stars – The love story of 2 teens who meet in a cancer survivors support group and fall in love

  3. A Clockwork Orange - A gang of violent teens in a futuristic society. The leader is caught and is experimented on, to become physically repulsed by violence.

  4. Maus (mouse in English) – comic style form, depicting a concentration camp in Nazi Germany.

  5. The Hunger Games – a futuristic society where teams compete to the death in organized games, held each year between the various districts of the country.

  6. Stephen King’s collection of short stories – Different Seasons

  7. Perks of a Wallflower – freshman in high school who befriends a group of seniors and their shared coming of age experiences.

  8. Fight Club – Two “twenty something” friends start a “fight club.” They challenge each other and escalate their destructive behavior.

  9. The Maze Runner – group of young people trapped in a village, surrounded by an enormous maze from which they cannot escape.

  16. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime – The story of an autistic child, who relates well to animals but has trouble relating to adults.

  17. Into Thin Air – The story of an expedition to Mt. Everest on which several people die when a violent storm strikes.
