RUBRIC FOR TOPIC/THESIS

AP LITERATURE AND COMPOSITION

Topic

A= Topic is not general or non-specific; topic is communicated in such a way that the teacher has complete confidence that the student understands the complexities of the chosen topic.


B= Topic is not general or non-specific; topic is communicated in such a way that the teacher has a fair amount of confidence that the student understands the complexities of the chosen topic.
C= Topic is not general or non-specific; topic is communicated in such a way that the teacher has some confidence that the student understands the complexities of the chosen topic.
D= Topic is general and/or non-specific; topic is communicated in such a way that the teacher has little confidence that the student understands the complexities of the chosen topic.
F= Topic is not submitted and approved by the due date. If submitted more than one day late, the grade for this assignment will be one (1) point.

Thesis

A= Thesis is approved on the FIRST submission and is well-written, demonstrating strong insight into the topic and showing mastery of diction, spelling, punctuation, and grammar.


B= Thesis is approved on the FIRST submission and is well-written, demonstrating strong insight into the topic and showing an above-average knowledge of diction, spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
C= Thesis was not approved on the FIRST submission, yet is adequately written, demonstrating adequate insight into the topic and showing adequate knowledge of diction, spelling, punctuation, and grammar; or the thesis meets the requirements for an A or B thesis, but had to be submitted for approval more than once.
D= Thesis is poorly worded, unclear, unfocused, and generally insufficient to control a college-level research paper, or the thesis meets the requirements for a C thesis or higher, but had to be submitted for approval more than three times.
F= Thesis was not submitted and approved by the due date. If submitted more than one day late, the grade for this assignment will be one (1) point.
