CYRUS CARPENTER born in Pennsylvania, 1818 is believed to be a descendant of WILLIAM CARPENTER from England, who married MARGARET, the widow of NATHANIEL RICHARDS, of New Garden, and daughter of ALLEN WILEY. In 1746, WILLIAM CARPENTER purchased 174 acres in New Garden, which he left to his son JOHN CARPENTER upon his death early in the year 1748.

CARPENTER, WILLIAM, from England, married MARGARET, widow of NATHANIEL RICHARDS, of New Garden, and daughter of ALLEN WILEY. In 1746 he purchased 174 acres in that township, which he devised to his son JOHN, and died early in the year 1748. His children were JOHN, THOMAS, SARAH, married to MICHAEL GREGG, 12, 11, 1755, and ALBINA. JOHN CARPENTER, married at Kennet meeting, 5, 2, 1759, HANNAH WALTER, daughter of JOSEPH and JANE, of Kennet, born 8, 30, 1741; died 5, 15, 1800. JOHN died 3, 1, 1810, aged 76. His children were as follows: 1. WILLIAM, b. 10, 10, 1761; died 7, 31, 1797; married RACHEL CARTER. 2. JOSEPH, born 1, 30, 1763; died 10, 1, 1820; married REBECCA POWELL. 3. ALBINA, born 12, 29, 1765; married JESSE MORGAN. 4. HANNAH, born 1, 4, 1768; married JOHN JEFFERIS. 5. PHEBE, born 1770; married Dr. ABRAHAM BAILY. 6. JANE, born 11, 24, 1772; married WILLIAM WEBB. 7. MARGARET, born 1, 9, 1775; married JOSHUA POWELL. 8. JOHN, born 2, 10, 1777. 9. ISAAC, born 5, 5, 1779; died 7, 23, 1833; married HANNAH BEAUMONT. 10. RACHEL, born 12, 3, 1782; married Dr. ABRAHAM BAILY. 11. CYRUS, born 8, 12, 1785; died 11, 26, 1864; married SARAH WORTHINGTON.

THOMAS CARPENTER married ESTHER, daughter of FRANCIS TRUMBLE. He died 2, 1, 1815, aged 76, and she 8, 15, 1813, aged 73 years. FRANCIS CARPENTER, their son, born 2, 25, 1771, died 10, 6, 1857, married 10, 15, 1795, SARAH BAILY, who was born 10, 30, 1768, and died 5, 12, 1834, daughter of JOHN and HANNAH BAILY of Newlin. They resided in West Bradford, and had children,--ESTHER, THOMAS, SARAH, FRANCIS T., EDWIN, MOSES S., ALBINA B., and HANNAH, who married JOHN WORTH, of East Bradford.

CARPENTER, WILLIAM. New Garden. Taylor. February 21, 1747/8. March 28, 1748. B. 253. Directs executors to make deed to WILLIAM, NATHANIEL and ISAAC RICHARDS the 3 children of NATHANIEL RICHARDS deceased for 50 acres of land as has been already agreed upon. Provides for wife MARGARET. To son JOHN my plantation in New Garden containing 174 acres he paying to son THOMAS £50 when 21. In case all children should die before legal age, plantation to brother JOHN CARPENTER and heirs of ALDERTON in Gloucestershire, England and in default of heirs to sister ANN CARPENTER of same place she paying to each of my sisters SARAH and MARY of London. To son THOMAS £94 at 21. To daughter SARAH and ALBINA £20 each at 18 or married. Executors: wife MARGARET and her son WM. RICHARDS. Witnesses: WILLM. REED, THOMAS WILY, WM. MILLER. [MARGARET died in W. Bradford December 4, 1796, aged 90, 113 children, grandchildren, etc.]

Remainder, supposed to be about 150 acres, to son ISAAC, he paying legacies. To son JOSEPH £200. To daughters ALBINA MORGAN, JANE WEBB, MARGARET POWELL and RACHEL BAILY $40 each. To son-in-law JOHN JEFFERIS 5 s. in barr of dower of his former wife, my daughter HANNAH. To son-in-law ABRAHAM BAILY 5/ in barr of dower of his former wife, my daughter PHEBE. To son CYRUS £200. To my 5 grandchildren, the children of my son WILLIAM, deceased, viz.: LYDIA, GEORGE, HANNAH, JOHN and JOSEPH, $10 each. To granddaughter HANNAH BAILY, daughter of daughter PHEBE, deceased, case of drawers. Residue to son ISAAC, who is executor. Wits.: CALVIN COOPER, ROBERT INGRAM, WILLIAM COOPER.
