Oedipus Rex: Human Will vs. Fate

Because of Oedipus actions and accounts of through the story, the reader has a reason to believe that the overall theme of Oedipus Rex is human will vs. fate. Since Oedipus is given his fate by the oracle as a child, he was to kill his father and marry his mother. This illustrates the theme, human will vs. fate, that the gods bestowed open Oedipus. In the story Creon tells Oedipus that that he was born into this world to kill his father and marry his mother. Oedipus is ironically upset because it is unlike his human will to do this crime. Overall, the story demonstrates the theme human will vs. fate because it is Oedipus fate, not his will, to commit adultery.
