H1 Extra Credit Assignment- Greek and Roman Art

Ms. Dworken Winter 2008

Over break, you will have the last opportunity of the semester to earn extra credit points. Upon completion of ALL requirements, you can earn up to 5 extra credit points on the final exam.
You have two options:

  1. Metropolitan Museum of Art- Greek and Roman Art (Permanent Exhibition)

Admission: Free (suggested donation)

  1. Onassis Cultural Center- Worshiping Women: Ritual and Reality in Classical Athens

645 Fifth Avenue, entrances on 51st and 52nd Streets, between Madison and Fifth Avenues

Admission: Free

Assignment: Visit one of the exhibitions above and select 3 pieces of artwork (this can be any medium- painting, sculpture, pottery).
For each piece:

  1. Write down the information provided to you in the museum description. This should include the title of the work, the date, the artist (some of this info may not be available).

  1. Using what we have learned in class, describe the historical context of the piece in at least 2 paragraphs. How did this piece of art challenge or support what we have learned?

  1. Why did you select this particular piece of art? What personal meaning do you find in the work you have chosen?

  1. What were your overall reactions to the exhibit?

You do not need to write a formal essay. Each write-up needs to be no longer than 4-5 paragraphs. Make sure you address all questions.

ASSIGNMNET DUE: MONDAY JANUARY 5th. No ifs, ands, or buts.

*You must turn in your ticket stub with the assignment to get credit
