Instructions: Complete the two tasks described below and using the information from pages 37-41 of your textbook.

ask #1:
On the back of this page, create a three slide cartoon strip describing the key battles of World War One (Ypres, The Somme, Vimy Ridge, and Passchendaele). In each panel create images and words that will help you to remember to main events of each battle. These sketches are not intended to be impressive works of art, rather to serve as memory enhancers for you. Use words sparingly; a few well-chosen words or phrases are more easily remembered than a detailed paragraph. Remember to include imagery or symbols that describe:



TASK #2: Create an interview between a reporter and a soldier. Assume the soldier had served in the Battles of Ypres, the Somme, Vimy Ridge and Passchendale. You will need to conduct some extra research beyond the textbook. Your interview should aim to inform the Canadian public at home about:

  • trench warfare

  • life in the front lines

  • the roles of technology in the war

  • the quality of military leadership

  • morale of Canadian soldiers

  • the effectiveness of Canadian troops

  • hospitals and medical treatment

  • the roles of women in the war
