A RESOLUTION recognizing observance of the Northern Kentucky Regional Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., "Convene for the Dream" Day Celebration.

WHEREAS, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was an extraordinary man whose uncompromising spiritual and moral values, courage, compassion, dignity, humility, love, and service to his fellow man galvanized this nation towards justice and racial harmony; and

WHEREAS, the accomplishments of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during the civil rights movement were among the most significant of the 20th century in areas of equal opportunities for employment, racial equality, political representation, quality education, and economic advancement; and

WHEREAS, the course of United States history was changed by the dream, courage, commitment, and sacrifice of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; and

WHEREAS, "Convene for the Dream" Day is celebrated in honor of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a man who brought hope and healing to many, and a man who served as America’s greatest champion of racial justice and equality; and

WHEREAS, "Convene for the Dream" Day is an opportunity for Northern Kentuckians to live and practice the ideals of self-control, fairness, and peace as espoused by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; and

WHEREAS, "Convene for the Dream" Day is celebrated in Northern Kentucky to symbolize unity and in honor of the famous "I have a Dream" speech delivered by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Washington, DC on August 28, 1963;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives hereby recognizes the observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., "Convene for the Dream" Day in Northern Kentucky.

Section 2. This body acknowledges the enduring legacy of universal and unconditional love, forgiveness, and nonviolence of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit a copy to the sponsor of this Resolution, Representative Arnold Simpson, 28 West 5th Street, Covington, KY 41011; and to Convene for the Dream, 1710 Maryland Avenue, Covington, KY 41014.
