Babylon, Empires, And Satan As The “Prince Of Trade”

Babylon means “gate of the gods” Spiritually It is the demon-possessed city (Revelation 18:2), the “gateway city” for the false gods. The tower of Babel was a tall tower reaching up to “the heavens” where the spirits dwelt. The ancient remains of the tower indicate it had a heathen temple at the top perhaps so that the evil spirits would use it as a conduit to earth similar to Jacob’s ladder. Externally Babylon is the great city, the worldly society based on trade, commerce and plunder. Originally Babylon was established as Babel by Nimrod “a mighty hunter before the Lord” (Genesis 10:8-14) Became proud and where was humanity was scattered from after the Tower of Babel (Genesis 11). It eventually became a mighty empire under Nebuchadnezzar and was responsible for the Jewish captivity and destruction of the Temple in 586BC. It later became a symbol of luxury, pride and human arrogance and of a society based on occult practices such as fortune-telling. It was invaded by the Medes and Persians and finally destroyed by Alexander the Great. There are many prophecies concerning Babylon particularly Jeremiah chapters 50 and 51. Babylon is identified as Rome and the Roman Empire, in the New Testament, then in the analogous societies such as the Eastern Empire based in Constantinople, the Roman Catholic Church, and wicked trading empires. I Revelation the final Babylon will emerge a vast trading empire in the last days and be a world system that persecutes Christians. Here is some material my book “The Market and the Kingdom” on this topic:
