Activity area for the achievement of the goal: CIVIL SOCIETY AND INTEGRATION

1.1

Policy goal defined in the guidelines: To develop civic education by using formal and informal education methods

1.1.1.

Task: Monitoring of civic education in the comprehensive school curricula.

In 2012 an assessment of the content regarding the reflection of the civic education issues at the general education programmes carried out and proposals for civic education content development elaborated.










Within the existing budget allocation

1.1.2.

Task: Improvement of civic knowledge and skills of children and young people at all levels of education.

Measures:

Support for inter-school civic initiatives, including those for disadvantaged children and young people subject to social expulsion risk (special support for initiatives in which a dialogue is created between the Latvian and national minority, as well as bilingual schoolchildren).



Every year, starting with 2013

At least 2 measures per year supported.










2013-2016: indicatively -EEA Financial Mechanism.

From 2017 additional budgetary funding required.



1.1.2.2.

Demonstration of Latvian movies at schools and/or libraries followed by an educational discussion on civil society and social integration issues.

In 2012 and 2013 the movie demonstration to schoolchildren at least once a year at each planning region of Latvia.

Task: Information and communication infrastructure accessible and comprehensible to the population for effective participation of civil society in policy making.

Measures:

Information campaigns on the participation opportunities in the decision-making processes involving local governments and their resources (libraries, cultural centers, museums, schools, NGOs).



Every year, starting with 2013

At least one information campaign per year held.

To provide information on the Cabinet website under the ‘Easy to read’ section in simple language on public participation opportunities in the decision-making by the Cabinet

Measures providing knowledge and developing civic skills and attitudes of professionals and the general public of all ages.
