Assessment Prompt 2: Students collaborate to identify a supporting quote for central idea 3, and then work with a partner to identify a supporting quote for central idea. Teacher checks relevance and accuracy of supporting quote for central/main idea #3. Re-teach as necessary.


  1. Modeling Summarizing: The teacher defines summary (includes all important information, no extraneous details) and models, seeking student input in constructing a summary based on identified central ideas. The students will then fill out the “Summary” sections on their own. Teacher Note: Summaries should focus on central/main ideas, not details, and this should be reinforced with examples/non-examples.
