Volunteers who are interested in exploring/studying a particular health related field such as psychiatry, internal medicine, psychology, social work, nursing, and rehabilitation therapies may do so through observing and assisting staff with patients’ therapeutic activities. 10:00am-3:00pm, Monday-Friday (adult groups); 9:30-noon, Monday-Friday (geriatric groups); and 12:00pm-1:00pm, 3:00pm-6:00pm (adolescent groups).
Patient Visitor Escort: Escort friends and families of patients from the lobby to visitation rooms on the units. Escorts are needed 7 days a week from 2:00pm-4:00pm and 6:00pm-8:00pm.
GED Tutors: Volunteers are needed to provide one-on-one tutoring to those patients working towards a GED. Tutors are needed Monday-Friday between 10:00am-12:00pm and 2:15pm- 3:00pm.
Patient Visitor/Mentor: Volunteer by visiting with patients during weekday evenings and weekends by providing enriching opportunities for a patient to practice and improve his/her social skills. Converse, read, or play games on the units with patients.
Group Volunteers: Volunteer as a group to visit with a patient unit for an hour or less at a time. Elect to come weekly, monthly, quarterly, or seasonally. Provide activities (singing, dancing, arts & crafts, games, or simply conversation) and refreshments. If your group is religious in nature, a brief devotional may be included and may last no more than ten minutes. The group must adhere to our guidelines for religious group activities.
Volunteer Entertainers/Demonstrators: Entertain or demonstrate a skill to the patients (bands, symphonies, clowns, dancing, magicians, quartets, solos, etc.). Musical performers/dancers entertain on Wednesdays 2:00pm-2:30pm or 7:00pm-8:00pm for 25-40 patients.
