Frederik Moth Uytendaele, Baron de Bretton, was born on 31 January 1753 on St. Croix.130

He was buried on 10 May 1813 by the Danish Lutheran Pastor in Christiansted, 60 years, 3 months and 9 days old.131

1. J. Uytendaele, Baron de Bretton, was a medical doctor. 132
2. Lucretia Uytendaele, Baroness de Bretton, born on St. Croix133 in about 1805 and baptized on 30 January 1806 in the Christiansted Anglican Church, daughter of Lucas Uytendaele, Baron de Bretton, was married on 14 December 1822, in the bride’s home by the Minister of the Christiansted Danish Lutheran Church to Ole Stampe Foss.134 He was born in Denmark in about 1789 and was baptized in the Lutheran Church.135 He had an "exam. juris" from Denmark.

In 1841, he and the family were resident at 17 King Street, Christiansted.136 Living with them at 17 King Street were William Uytendaele, Baron de Bretton, born in about 1785 and baptized in the Dutch Reformed Church, and Emma Uytendaele, Baroness de Bretton, who was born in about 1810 and baptized in the Anglican Church.137

In 1846, he was a lawyer and planter, who was a judge advocate for the militia.138 In 1846 & 1850, he and his family were resident at estate Cotton Valley in East End B Quarter, which he owned.139

In 1855, he and his family were living at estate Cotton Valley, East End B Quarter.140 By October 1860, the estate was sold.141

In 1857 & 1860, he and his wife and daughter, Udney, were living at 17 King's Street, Christiansted.142 In 1860, their daughter Tekla was also part of the household.143

He died and was buried on 21 May 1865 in Christiansted.144

In 1880, she was living with her daughter Udney at 17 King’s Street, Christiansted.145

In 1890, they are both still at 17 King’s Street, Christiansted. 146

Paulus Uytendaele, Baron de Bretton was married on 12 February 1778 at Mrs. Walter's residence by the Anglican Minister to Catherine Angus.147

1. Elizabeth Angus Uytendaele was born in January 1779 and was baptized on 14 February 1779 in the Christiansted Anglican Church.148
2. Helena Moulin Uytendaele was born on 14 November 1780 and was baptized on 23 April 1781 in the Christiansted Anglican Church.149

She was married in the Christiansted Danish Lutheran Church on 6 February 1807, to Peter Holm Fibiger, a Royal Managing Clerk.150 He died on 26 March 1812.151

She was remarried at home by the Pastor of the Danish Lutheran Church on 12 April 1813, to Peter Bork, an Attorney.152

4. Elizabeth Uytendaele was born on 1 January 178[?] and was baptized on 11 March 1784 in the Christiansted Anglican Church.154

Eliza, Baronesse de Breton, of the Dutch Reformed Church, was married at Baron [Frederik?] de Bretton’s estate, by the Pastor of the Christiansted Danish Lutheran Church, on 9 June 1800, to Henry Renouard, of the Dutch Reformed Church, and a Merchant in Christiansted.155

Ann Uytendael, Baroness de Bretton, was married on 27 March 1776 at John Balthasar Uytendael, Baron de Bretton's residence by the Anglican Minister to John Porter.156

Abraham Utendale, a free mulatto, was married on 17 October 1779 in church by the Anglican Minister to Jemimah Burris, free mulatto.157

Lucy Gertrude Uytendaele, Baroness de Bretton, was born in Demarara in about 1821 and was baptized in the Anglican Church on 9 March 1823.158

She was married on 20 April 1844 [source?] to Charles Lewis Krause, who was born on St. Croix on 19 February 1820 [source?] and baptized in the Danish Lutheran Church on 19 October 1823.159

In 1846, they were living at estate Profit, King's Quarter, where he was the estate Manager.160

Emilia Augusta Uytendaele, Baroness de Bretton, was born on St. Croix in about 1808161 and she was a member of the Anglican Church.162

She was married on 21 September 1835, in the St. Croix Danish Lutheran Church to Johan Ludvig Heitmann,163 who was born in about 1806 and was baptized in the St. Croix Danish Lutheran Church on 15 May 1806.164

In 1841, they were living at 20 Prince Street, Christiansted, with their family, and he was employed as a Police Adjutant. 165

In October 1857, they were living with his family at estate Lower Bethlehem, King’s Quarter, where he was a Police Assistant. 166

Axylene [Axelina] Josephine Uytendael, de Bretton167 was born on St. Croix in about 1827 and was a member of the Anglican Church.168

In 1841 & 1846, she was living at 26 Hospital Street, Christiansted, in the home of Eliza Campbell.169

She was married on 20 January 1847, by the Anglican Minister to George Behagen who was born on St. Croix in about 1814170/1815171 and was a member of the Anglican Church.172 At the time of his marriage, it was stated that he was a Merchant, and a member of the Lutheran Church.173

In 1857, he owned 14 Church Street, Christiansted, where the family was living, and he was listed as a Merchant.174

By 1880, she was widowed.175 She was the beneficiary of Eliza Beech's will, dated 19 November 1900,176 with whom she had lived in 1841 and 1846.177

She died on 4 July 1902.178

John Balthazar v. Uytendaele,179 who was born on St. Croix on 14 September 1784, was married in the Christiansted Anglican Church on 1 April 1809, to Judith Hester Copeley Bladwell,180 who was born on 22 September 1785.

He was a medical doctor with his degree from Philadelphia [University of Pennsylvania?], who practiced on both St. Croix and St. Thomas.

He died in New York City on 28 October 1854.

She died on 11 May 1867.

1. Phillippa de Bretton was married on 17 July 1834 at estate Boetzberg by the Danish Lutheran Pastor to Frederik Fleck Schuster,182 who was a member of the Lutheran Church.183

In 1829, he was a "Mægler,"184 which he was still in 1848.185

John Uytendaele, Junior, Baron de Bretton, who was born in about 1783, was married to Anna Lucia Gertrud Gyllich, who was born in about 1791 and was baptized on 24 November 1791 at estate Canaan by the Danish Lutheran Pastor.186

In 1808, they had two children baptized, but did not provide the sex nor names of the children to the Danish Pastor. 187

In 1808-1810, he was an acting Public Notary.188

1. Julia Uytendaele, Baronesse de Bretton was born in about 1810 and was baptized on 2 March 1810 in the Danish Lutheran Church, Christiansted.189 Witnesses at the baptism were: Merchant William Jeger & wife (the wife was absent), Doctor Keutsch & wife and Miss Giertrude Smith.190
2. Geert Uytendaele was born in about 1812 and was baptized on 13 April 1812 in the Danish Lutheran Church, Christiansted.191 Witnesses at the baptism were: Miss Marie Jeger, Mr. G. S. Gyllich, Jacob Gyllich & Claudius Gyllich. 192

Maria Yutendale was born on St. Thomas in about 1790, classified as a mulatto.193

She received her Freedom Certificate on 23 June 1802. 194

She came to St. Croix in about 1805. 195

In 1815, she was serving as a Housekeeper in the household of Robert Montgomerie at 14b Church Street, Frederiksted. 196 [Her son may have been Peter Montgomerie, born in about 1799, a free Mustice, and her mother was probably Dorothea Christiana, who was resident at the same location in 1815. –SH]

Joseph, Baron de Breton was born on St. Croix in about 1800 and baptized in the Dutch Reformed Church.197

In 1841, he was living at 27 King’s Cross Street, Christiansted, married, a Medical Doctor, and a member of the King’s Life Squadron. 198

On 9 April 1814, he received a medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. 204

In 1816, he had been practicing for 41 months and was resident in Christiansted, serving about 130 blacks in town and in the countryside.205

Wilhelmina Theresa had a relationship in about 1762-1763 with Axel Wilhelm,216 who was born in about 1732.217

He first appeared in the St. Croix records in Christiansted in 1763.218

He was the royal blacksmith219 from 1763 until 1771.220 He resided at the Royal Smithy near Fort Christiansværn from 1763-1771.221

She was baptized on 23 October 1768 in the Friedensthal Moravian Church, a slave of Lucas Uytendahl, Baron de Bretton.222 As of July 17, 1774, she was still a slave of Lucas Uytendahl. 223

Marotto had a relationship in about 1763-1765 with Alexander Gordon. 230

She was the mother of Frederik Gordon, b. 1764 and Susanna Gordon, b. c1765.


Minerva had a relationship in about 1764-1765 with Samuel Myer.231

Bergata Benjamin was the mother of George William, who was baptized on 20 July 1817 in the Christiansted Lutheran Mission Church and was classified as a Negro.232
Catharina Francisca, who was a heathen [i.e. from Africa] girl and had previously been called Catharina, was baptized on 4 July 1800 in the Christiansted Lutheran Mission Church.233
Catharina Fredericka was born on 9 January 1810 and was baptized on 11 February 1810 in the Christiansted Lutheran Mission Church. 234 Her mother was Fredericka. 235
Fredericka was the mother of Catharina Fredericka, who was born on 9 January 1810 and was baptized on 11 February 1810 in the Christiansted Lutheran Mission Church. 236
George William, whose mother was Bergata Benjamin, was baptized on 20 July 1817 in the Christiansted Lutheran Mission Church and classified as a Negro.237
